The Essence of Nonviolence Is Love

"The essence of nonviolence is love. Out of love and the willingness to act selflessly, strategies, tactics, and techniques for a nonviolent struggle arise naturally. Nonviolence is not a dogma; it is a process."

-- Thich Nhat Hanh

  1. Lovely quote. I am confused when people try to evoke change through violence. Change made by force is not truly a change, but a reflection of fear.

  2. I agree. You can bully someone into doing (or not doing) something, but to effect meaningful and permanent change--of the sort where the person changes his or her actions and goes on to educate or influence others to follow suit--you really need to have that person make those changes for the right reasons. Fear isn't one of those.
