The heart deceives, because it is never anything but the expression of the mind’s miscalculations… I don’t know what the heart is, not I: I only use the word to denote the mind’s frailties.

The Marquis was a rapist and misogynist, so it is no surprise that he could not find his heart.
Oh, come one, poor old marquis! 30 years in prison and no worse than his contemporaries.......I thought the quote was pretty good for these touchy-feely times.
Yes poor man, all he did is abduct people, rape them, make porn, and make his own misogynistic views very clear.
faithfullyagnostic, your page reference describes de Sade as a now reconsidered writer, and as one unjustly imprisoned - no-one denies he was a libertine - although his behaviour today would hardly cause a raised eyebrow - and I don't wish to appear in his defence wholeheartedly, but the article mentions nothing about abduction or rape, only elopement, which is a very different kettle of fish. About the worst you can say of him - and I repeat, he is certainly not a squeaky clean character by today's standards - is on his Wikipedia page. I am entertained as to why you included a reference to a far milder article? Just out of interest - it's not really veganly relevant.....
