I...Excellent essay! I was unaware of it till now.

I need to pay better attention to what wonderful vegan advocates like you are doing these days!Keith Bergerhttp://www.veganeducationgroup.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1528521735436082423.post-61842586029809708192017-01-17T16:12:31.869-04:002017-01-17T16:12:31.869-04:00This was just emailed to me by someone who was app...This was just emailed to me by someone who was apparently experiencing difficulty leaving a comment. If others are experiencing the same problem, please drop me a line.

Mylène

-----------------

Vegans don't deliberately consume or otherwise use easily avoidable animal products.

Well, this certainly is the baseline. I advoate new vegans to just stop eating the animals and anything that comes off off or out of them. That's the first big step. It's pretty easy to avoid the ground beef or the cheese. Less easily is the rice made with chicken broth. It does become dauntingly eye opening for the new vegan to see all the places that animal ingredients find their way into. Milk in bread? Yep. There is a learning curve the well intentioned new vegan finds themself riding on.

So something that starts out easily seen, when learing more about it, becomes more difficiult to achieve. I have an app on my phone that drills down into some of the chemicals in my food. And then there is "dough conditioners" which can contain L cystine derived from human hair or duck feathers. It becomes more complicated because we choose to make it more complicated but there is a big difference between avoiding somethign which MIGHT contain an animal product and one you KNOW certainly does.

I used to identify, (incorrectly), as a vegan when I was still flying and would find myself on the road eating at a place with no vegan options. I was SOOOooo close that I figured what difference do those 3 meals out of the 90 I ate a month matter. Fries, (made in the same oil as the chicken and shrimp of course) and salad with oil and vinegar never crossed my mind back then although it would now.

People like her need to be called out. It is the only way someone can change their paradigm. I did.

So thanks. Nicely done.

Marty
Marty's V Burger
@veganpilotmarty
Mhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15800153451645970774noreply@blogger.com
