I am uplifted, inspired, motivated, and validated by your links and posts. It's easy for me to "be vegan," but being vegan in a non-vegan world -- it can be tough out here! Not because I am afraid of having an unpopular opinion, or offending my family or friends, or because I "need" cheese (that craving left a long while ago!) -- but because I dread holidays like Thanksgiving, when my social media feeds will explode with turkey carcasses and comments about how yummy they look. Or when coworkers cringe about animal abuse stories in the news while eating their [insert farm animal flesh here]. Or see the parade of Canada Goose jackets again this winter on people who seem like nice people (and nice people don't kill animals for a stupid fur trim collar, right?). Or when I just want to shop for food or eat out without feeling like an alien in a bizarre planet where people just don't REALIZE what the heck they are eating. For these reasons -- when I feel I need a boost or information or to feel like I'm not irrational or a nut -- I turn to My Face Is On Fire in one of its forms. Thank you for bringing our community together and the positive energy you bring to it!Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16552470341984179414noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1528521735436082423.post-38116721555852271372015-10-11T02:51:28.976-03:002015-10-11T02:51:28.976-03:00Well said Mylene. A cou...Well said Mylene. Your voice is important.

A couple of things stood out for me personally :

"To cite "burnout" would be obvious, I guess. The politics in animal advocacy have left me feeling a bit fried. I used to find strength in my involvement, but not so much these days."

and

"We need to support each other as vegans. When it comes to animal advocacy, we need to support each other as abolitionists. I don't expect activists who've been hurt by others to support those others, but would like to see less of that hurting going on. I'm not talking about glossing over facts and honest discourse here, or about silencing valid criticism. There needs to be honest discourse. We need to be challenging each other. We do. But we need to consider being each other's sounding boards first and foremost. We can criticize constructively if we leave our egos out of it and focus on the fact that billions of lives depend on our getting our collective shit together. "

The first two sentences in particular of the later quote. We definitely need to support each others as vegans and abolitionists. For sure. I would like to see more of this.
